Mayor's Notebook

Kurt Wheeler has lived in the Village of Cazenovia since moving back home in 1996. He grew up in New Woodstock, spent 11 years away to attend college, serve in the Marine Corps, work in Washington, DC and attend graduate school.
Elected Mayor in 2011, he began his service as a trustee in 2005 and was an appointed member of the Cazenovia Advisory Conservation Commission from 1997 to 2005. He has been a commissioned officer in the Marine Corps since 1989 and is currently a history teacher and coach at Cazenovia High School. Kurt is active with Project CAFE, a non-profit corporation serving the youth and families of the Cazenovia area.
A former chairman of the Winter Festival Committee and July 4th Committee, Kurt is also a life member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mayor Wheeler was the former Commissioner of Streets and Sidewalks and Chairman of the Comprehensive Plan Committee and Zoning Revision Committee. Amy was elected to the Village Board in 2009 and re-elected in 2011. She currently serves as Deputy Mayor and Police Commissioner. In addition, Amy is the Village Tree Commissioner and sits on the Carpenter's Barn Restoration Committee.
Amy previously worked as the Commissioner of Parks, Youth Recreation, Trees, and Cemetery. She also sat on the Lake Watershed Council and the Carpenter's Barn Restoration Committee.
Amy is a 1985 graduate of Cazenovia High School and holds a BA in Political Science from Amherst College. Prior to her service on the board, she spent a decade in the financial services industry, working as a Trust Officer for Northern Trust Company in Chicago and as a Portfolio Manager for HSBC Bank in Syracuse.
She previously served on the boards of Cazenovia Children's House, Cazenovia Ski Club, and the United Community Chest of Cazenovia, Nelson, and Fenner.

Peggy was elected to the Village Board in June, 2009, and serves as the water and sewer trustee. Prior to her election, she served on the Noise Ordinance Committee and on the committee which developed the Historic Preservation Ordinance. In addition to her assigned responsibilities, Peggy has a special interest in finding ways to keep village residents aware and involved in village issues.
Peggy is a small business owner and founding member of Cazenovia Artisans. She is a Board member and former treasurer of Friends of the Cazenovia Public Library as well as secretary of the Historic Cazenovia Business District Committee. She spent her professional life in education as a high school teacher, then a learning consultant with the Regional Learning Service, and finally as a longtime continuing education administrator for Syracuse University.

David Porter was elected as Village Trustee in June 2010. He resides with his wife Betsy Moore and son, Kevin at 46 Sullivan Street in Cazenovia. Dave grew up in the small town of North Norwich, NY in Chenango County and has lived in the Village of Cazenovia since 1990. He attended and graduated from the State University of New York at Albany, the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and Syracuse University. He is a former US naval officer and served onboard the USS White Plains (AFS-4) from 1977 to 1981.
Dave is a licensed professional engineer in the State of New York and is also a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and a LEED Accredited Professional for building design and construction (LEED AP BD+C). He worked for 20 years at Stearns & Wheler in Cazenovia, NY and is currently as employed at Bergmann Associates in Syracuse, NY as senior mechanical and energy engineer.
He is a member of the Cazenovia Lions Club, has served on the board of directors of the Cazenovia Public Library is currently on the board of directors of the Cazenovia Youth Soccer Association.
With his background as a consulting engineer, Dave hopes to bring an engineering perspective to some of the building and infrastructure challenges that currently face the Village. He has a strong interest in sustainable design and energy conservation and hopes to participate in Village programs that support those two areas of local and national importance.

Tim Mahoney has lived in the village of Cazenovia with his wife Ingrid and their two children for nearly the past decade. Tim was raised in the neighboring small City of Sherrill, New York with his 5 brothers. Tim has always admired Cazenovia with its pristine lake, lovely village and well kept neighborhoods, which is why 20 years ago this year he and Ingrid were married in the Cazenovia First Presbyterian Church followed by a reception at the Lincklean House. Tim is especially interested in preserving the beauty and quaintness of Cazenovia, while cultivating appropriate avenues for long-term growth and development in the village.
Tim has owned and operated a successful general construction firm for more than 20 years. His firm employs over 50 skilled employees, and has expertise in both commercial and residential construction. Tim has been the builder of many of the new homes located within the village. Additionally, Tim is a co-founder, owner, and operator of several Store America self storage facilities located throughout Central New York.
In addition to being a pro-active parent in his children's activities, Tim is active in the community serving as a coach for the local youth lacrosse league, serving on the "Light Up Fenner" committee that is working to secure lighting for Fenner fields, and volunteering for numerous local service opportunities. Tim also serves on the buildings and grounds committee at Eastern Hills Bible Church in Manlius. Tim and his management team, along with 1,500 other wonderful volunteers, led the charge on building the 2008 ABC's Extreme Makeover Project in Central New York.
