The Village of Cazenovia Board of Trustees meets on the first Monday of each month at 7pm in the Village Municipal Building, 90 Albany Street.

Thomas J Dougherty, Mayor Mayor's Notebook
Mayor Thomas Dougherty grew up in Cazenovia and graduated from Cazenovia Central School. After graduation from college he left Cazenovia to work on various nuclear power plant projects throughout the northeast. Currently, he works as a quality assurance analyst at the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station.

Tom and his wife Deborah returned to Cazenovia in 1978 to raise their family, of three children: Jennifer, Thomas B, and John. Upon returning to Cazenovia, Mayor Dougherty became involved in youth sports where he was actively involved in the initiation of the Youth Basketball Program and the revitalization of Little League Baseball in Cazenovia. He is a former coach of youth basketball and baseball and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Pop Warner Football.

As Trustee from 1994 to 2004, Mayor Dougherty was chairman of the Village Code Committee that revised and updated the current Village Code. He was instrumental in the installation of the fountain and the removal of the old pump house at Lakeland Park as well as the construction of the Village Basketball Court at Burton Street Park.

Tom's wife Deborah is a former member of the Cazenovia Village Board of Trustees. Mayor Dougherty is very proud of the Village of Cazenovia and truly enjoys serving the community, which he has done as mayor since June of 2004. His interests include family, village government, and youth sports. Kurt Wheeler, Trustee, Deputy Mayor
Kurt Wheeler has lived in the Village of Cazenovia since moving back home in 1996.

He grew up in New Woodstock, spent 11 years away to attend college, serve in the Marine Corps, work in Washington, DC and attend graduate school.

He has been an elected office-holder since 2005 and was an appointed member of Cazenovia Advisory Conservation Commission from 1997 to 2005. He has been a commissioned officer in the Marine Corps since 1989 and is currently a history teacher and coach at Cazenovia High School. Kurt is active with Project Café, a non-profit corporation serving the youth and families of the Cazenovia area.

A former chairman of the Winter Festival Committee and July 4th Committee, Kurt is also a life member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. His responsibilities on the Village Board include streets, sidewalks and buildings and he has a special interest in comprehensive planning. Peggy Van Arnam, Trustee
Peggy was elected to the Village Board in June, 2009, and serves as the water and sewer trustee. Prior to her election, she served on the Noise Ordinance Committee and on the committee which developed the Historic Preservation Ordinance. In addition to her assigned responsibilities, Peggy has a special interest in finding ways to keep village residents aware and involved in village issues.

Peggy is a small business owner and founding member of Cazenovia Artisans. She is a Board member and former treasurer of Friends of the Cazenovia Public Library as well as secretary of the Historic Cazenovia Business District Committee. She spent her professional life in education as a high school teacher, then a learning consultant with the Regional Learning Service, and finally as a longtime continuing education administrator for Syracuse University.

Peggy holds a B.A. degree from Mount Holyoke College and an M.A. degree from SUNY Albany. She has been a resident of Lincklaen St. since 1972 where she and her husband George raised their three sons. She can be reached at 655-8952 or pgvanarnam@aol.com


Rich Huftalen, Trustee
Rich Huftalen was raised on a dairy farm on Hardscrabble Road, about 5 miles southeast of Cazenovia. He attended Cazenovia High School and then University of Notre Dame where he earned degrees in English and biology, played rugby and met his wife, Katherine.

Mr. Huftalen worked in cervical cancer research at Case Western Reserve Medical School immediately after college. Upon taking an MBA accounting class at Case's Weatherhead School of Management, he decided to make a career change. He moved back to Upstate NY with Katherine and began working at McIntosh Box & Pallet, a manufacturing company owned by his uncle. After completing his MBA at Syracuse University, he decided to remain in the area and pursue a buyout of McIntosh. Mr. Huftalen closed on the business purchase in 2001.

He is currently President of the company. He and Katherine had their first child, Will, in June 2000. He and Katherine have had 2 more children, Ella (2003) and Margaret (2006). They are expecting their 4th child in September 2009. The Huftalen family lives on Hurd Street in the village of Cazenovia. Mr. Huftalen is a catechist for his parish and is involved in his children's many activities. He skis with his family and enjoys hockey, softball and tennis. He is past president of the Cazenovia Forum, a community speaker's series. He is also member of the Empire State Chapter of Young President's Organization. Amy Mann, Trustee
Amy Mann was elected Village Trustee in June, 2009 and appointed Commissioner of Parks and Recreation, Trees, and Cemetery. In addition she was appointed to the Lake Watershed Council.

Amy grew up in Cazenovia and graduated from Cazenovia Central School. She is a graduate of Amherst College and returned in 1997 to raise her family.

Her professional experience includes a decade in the financial services industry, working as a Trust Officer for Northern Trust Company in Chicago and as an Investment Officer for HSBC Bank in Syracuse.

She previously served on the boards of Cazenovia Childrens House, Cazenovia Ski Club, and the United Community Chest of Cazenovia, Nelson, and Fenner.
